This month, we celebrate the lush botanical paradise located at 3823 69th Street. Owner Lani Minella considers herself a high-end botanical expert. She uses a unique conglomeration of plants instead of just focusing on tropical, desert, etc. Lani said she welcomes interested neighbors in knocking on the door if they are interested in a sample of a particular plant.
This month’s yard is both spectacular and inspiring. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to talk to the owner(s) before writing this article, so I won’t be able to share the history of the making of this yard, located at 4138 Donna Street.
What caught my eye on this yard was the English garden look done with drought tolerant plants like lantana, daisies, false heather and a variety of grasses. You enter the yard by a soft curved brick walkway surrounded by flowers on both your right and left. As you stop to take a look at these whimsical flowers that gently wave with the hot summer breeze, you become aware of the birdbath and statues peeking out from beneath the shade welcoming you into the yard. This yard is beautiful and has a very "Alice in Wonderland" feel. Great job whomever you are! I’d love to hear from you and learn how your yard came to be so special. Owner Sandy started working on her yard with the help of her gardener in 2004. She kept water conservation in mind and planted drought tolerant plants that now, at age 4, provide a colorful yard of vibrant greens and deep reds which match the trim on her home. She installed a smart water irrigation system and the walkway is gently lit by solar lights. We say "hats off" to Sandy for creating a yard that not only complements her home, but is also environmentally friendly!
Tony & Mark have created a fabulous yard with a retaining wall, sculptured lawn, lush foliage and designer lighting. (They've added a lovely stained glass window and door, too!)
Gina and Ed added stamped concrete on both the driveway & stairs, brick lamp posts, an Emerson "welcome" plaque and gorgeous landscape lighting (which makes their palm trees sparkle like jewels at night), setting a great example of curb appeal!
Dave and Linda have done a beautiful job of adding flagstone, a koi pond with statuary and water feature, as well as lantana & a lush mulberry tree!
