WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3, 2011 AT 6:00 P.M. JOAN B . KROC CENTER MULTIPURPOSE ROOM at 6845 UNIVERSITY AVENUE, SAN DIEGO, CA 92115 PUBLIC COMMENT REGARDING PRELIMINARY REDISTRICTING PLAN
The Redistricting Commission will receive public comment and suggestions. Comments are limited to two minutes per speaker. Rolando Park Community members are strongly encouraged to attend and to make comments regarding which district Rolando Park will be put in.
We are currently in District 7 with other college communities. In the preliminary maps we will be placed in district 4 with communities south of the 94. The maps are not final and the commission is still accepting public comment. Please visit http://www.sandiego.gov/redistricting/ to learn more.
Please attend this meeting to support your community leaders and let the Redistricting Commission know your opinions.
Why does this concern me?
If any of these have, or might affect, you and your family:
SDSU
- Mini-dorms
- Crowding more people into our neighborhood
- loud parties
Police Coverage
- Traffic
- Neighborhood Speeding
- Auto theft
- Auto burglary
- Home burglary
- Graffiti
Equal Representation
- Over worked city staff short of resources to respond
- Shortage of park & recreational facilities
- Street problems
If you feel we have more in common with the College area than the neighborhoods south of 94 all the way to National City:
- Where do you shop?
- What area do you know well?
- Where do you travel frequently?
- Where do your children play or attend school?
If you think the efforts to keep our neighborhood elementary open are worthwhile,
If you want the major leaders in your new district to know where your neighborhood is,
The current proposed preliminary map cuts us off from:
- All the other College neighborhoods
- Mission Trails Regional Park
- Our current City district representatives and all the connections we have made and the projects for our area that are current in process:
- the joint use park with Rolando Park Elementary
- the sidewalks & stop sign near Racine & Vista
Now is the time to make sure that redistricting happens so it works for us not against us. If the preliminary maps are adopted our area will be in District 4. The District 4 representative is Tony Young and he is not up for re-election until 2014. This means that during the next election for the city council in 2012 our area will not have a say as to who our representative is until 2014.
If we do not attend and show our presence then everyone else will decide what we get or do not get until the year 2022 or 2024 when the City Council districts may or may not be redrawn!
